Information on a 6.7l cummins Empty
PostSubject: Information on a 6.7l cummins   Information on a 6.7l cummins Empty14th August 2012, 9:45 pm

The 6.7 L Cummins is the latest in the B-series engines, introduced mid year in 2007. Rated at 350 HP & 650 lb-ft, it is also the most powerful B-series ever offered. The 5.9 ISB was replaced by the 6.7 to meet strict new diesel emission requirements. To meet such requirements, the 6.7 is equipped with an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system, a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), and a diesel particulate fitler designed to reduce diesel particulate matter by more than 90 percent. A new, higher-pressure version of the Bosch direct injection system is used.

-350 HP @ 3,013 RPM (Feb. 2011 upgrade)
Torque:
-650 lb-ft @ 1,500 RPM w/auto trans (intro)
-610 lb-ft @ 1,500 RPM w/manual trans (2010)
-800 lb-ft @ 1,600 RPM (Announced Spring 2011)

6.7L Cummins Info:
• Unlike the 5.9L Rams, manual transmission equipped 6.7L Rams have less torque output than the automatic equipped 6.7L Rams.
• The 6.7L maintains peak torque between 1,500 & 2,800 RPM.
• 40 % of the 5.9L Cummins' engine parts were carried over to the 6.7L Cummins.
• The 6.7 features an integrated exhaust brake direct from the factory, which improves safety and vehicle control while towing.
• 6.7 fuel injection system lowers noise, vibration, emissions, and increases fuel ecomony (in comparison to the 5.9 ISB).
• 6.7L Meets strict NOx emission requirements for 2010 3 years in advance.
• Standard emission equipment includes a diesel particulate filter & exhaust gas recirculation system.
• Designed to safely run on B5 biodiesel.
• In February 2011, Chrysler announced a 150 lb-ft increase in the 6.7L Cummins torque, bringing total output to 800 lb-ft. Horsepower remains a peak 350 hp despite the torque increase.
Cummins announced an upgraded version of the 6.7L Cummins in Spring 2011, giving the engine 800 lb-ft so that it may compete with the torque levels of the 2011 model Duramax & Power Stroke. Prior to the upgrade, the 6.7L Cummins fell short of Ford's offering by 150 lb-ft and GM by 115 lb-ft. While the 6.7L Cummins' engine architecture provides engine strength similar to the 5.9L, it has not been without its problems. The emissions equipment on early models of this engine were prone to failure. As result, clogged diesel particulate filters, faulty EGR systems, and blown turbochargers were common. Cummins released a series of recalls that provided new tuning in order to reduce soot levels & eliminate most of these issues.
